A Senator's Explanation of Vote Against RH Bill*

Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. explains his vote against RH Bill. This one deserves to be published.


Ginoong pangulo, may kanya-kanya po tayong paniniwala at paninindigan sa usaping ito. Mayroon po kayong opinyon at mayroon din po ako. Ang mahalaga, respetuhin natin ang opinyon ng bawat isa. Magtiwala po tayo sa ating sistema na ang kalalabasan ng botohang ito ay ang makabubuti para sa ating bansa. Having said that Mr. President, I in my good conscience cannot vote in favor of the RH bill.

Hindi ko po matatanggap na sa pamamagitan ng batas na ito, ang isang sanggol, na walang kalaban-laban, na hindi pa ipinapanganak ay sinisentensyahan na natin ng kamatayan. Life is a gift, a blessing, Mr. President, not a curse. I say this because of experience.

Lani and I lost a daughter due to a complication caused by the use of contraceptive pills. Her name is Ma. Alexandra. Ipinanganak po siya noong 1990, ngunit 26 na araw lang siyang nabuhay. Ipinanganak po siya Ginoong Pangulo na butas ang puso. Before Lani gave birth to her, she was properly and religiously taking pills. Hindi lang po pumalpak yung pills, ipinanganak pa siyang may malubhang karamdaman. Up to this day, Mr. President, I still think of what could have been for Alexandra.

Mr. president, dito lang po sa atin, 5 sa 23 senador ang nawalan ng anak dahil sa kumplikasyong dulot ng kontrasepsyon. Sa bilang na ito, halos lahat ay dahil sa diperensya sa puso.

I do not believe that the RH Bill will deliver any of its promises the way it sets them out. There is a saying that you can only bring the horse to the water, but you cannot force the horse to drink. Gagastos po tayo ng bilyong-bilyong piso para bumili ng contraceptives, pero hindi naman natin masisiguro na gagamitin ito. At kung gamitin man ang mga ito, wala namang kasiguruhan na makakamit ng programa ang nilalayon nito - ang pigilan ang paglago ng populasyon upang mabawasan ang kahirapan.

Instead of building more schools, procuring more books, and hiring more teachers to solve the education backlog, the RH bill sees the solution in simply reducing students. Para mabawasan daw ang problema sa kalusugan, imbes na pag-ibayuhin ang mga serbisyo-medikal, bawasan na lang ang mga mangangailangan ng serbisyo. Para matugunan ang problema sa pabahay, sa halip na magpatayo ng bahay, bawasan na lang ang mangangailangan ng tahanan. Instead of government doing its job to address the needs of the people, let us just eliminate those who have needs.

Naiintindihan ko po Ginoong Pangulo na kailangan po nating kumilos para tugunan ang mga problema ng bayan. Ngunit Ginoong Pangulo, kailanman hindi ako makapapayag na sabihing ang problema ng bayan ay ang sarili niyang mamamayan.

Kaya naman Ginoong Pangulo, tumatayo po ako ngayon sa inyong harapan at sa Inang bayan, bilang tinig ng mga mamamayang nasasapawan ang boses. More importantly, I stand Mr. President as the voice of the unborn child.

Ang akin pong boto ay dikta ng aking konsensiya, at sa aking paninindigan kung ano ang tama. Mr. President, I vote NO to the RH bill.

EVEN IF

Even if the legislators have voted for it, I will still advocate for its defeat.

Even if they shamefully deceive other people, I will strongly expose their lies!

Even if they try to promote a mentality contrary to the culture of the people, I will continue explaining the ill effects of that non-Filipino mentality.

Even if they are fighting for women's rights while eventually transforming women into mere sexual objects, I will be a true pro-woman, respecting her rights, fighting for her real overall health, and leading her to the true purpose of her existence.

Even if they self-admit that they protect the health of the woman by advocating for this bill, I shall continue to refer them to the list of carcinogens released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). RH includes procurement and distribution of oral contraceptive pills which are classified as Group 1 carcinogens!

Even if there's that Martial Law-like provision in the RH Bill, I will still speak the truth, for if I didn't, then lies will sound like truths in the future!

Even if the signature of the President and the leaders of the Congress are attached for its approval, the unconstitutionality of certain provisions in the bill does not change and I shall not change my stand. I shall always side where LIFE is!

Even if a seemingly intelligent lady senator admits she does not know that life starts from conception, I will always repeat that same-old-brand-new line from scientists, microbiologists, bioethicists, etc that LIFE STARTS FROM CONCEPTION, for that is the truth!

Even if they are trying to destroy the family, I will fight for the basic unit of society, the family, from where a community will start.

Even if I m oppressed for my religious convictions, I will stay strong for my faith, for it is by this faith that I have come to know the Truth.

Even if neo-Malthusian economists teach that poverty is caused by a good and growing population, I will still believe the opposite because numbers have shown and have given us empirical evidence that it is quite the other way around.

Even if people want to teach children the way to sex as early as grade 6, I will teach the children the way to good morals and values.

Even if they deny that abortion will follow contraception, I will let them hold their ground, for when it happens, they will surely regret their present decision. Contraception is the mother of abortion. And the woman becomes the mother of an aborted baby.

Even if people are so deeply bound to ignorance, I will still continue to study and learn, to crash ignorance, and to teach the little ones the way to intellect, good will, and common good.

Even if they say that conscience was their basis, I will continue to explain that they have distorted "conscience" per se, because conscience is the "voice of God within us". Conscience should not be dictated by the pork, otherwise, there really is dictatorship! And corruption.

Even if the President of the Philippines loses his mind, I will stay alert, think thoroughly, and let prudence be my guiding principle.

Even if I get imprisoned for speaking of the truth, I will still speak the truth, for if not, then I become a liar!

Even if they fight for the culture of DEATH, WE will fight for the culture of LIFE!

Even if the whole world were pro-RH, WE will still be pro-LIFE.

As long as there is human life on earth and there are people advocating against its flourishing, there will always be the fight for LIFE.

These 104 people below are really commendable. In every sense of the word. I could hardly believe that almost half of the House members who voted last December 12-13, 2012 are truly PRO-LIFE. I was hoping that the number was greater. But I was expecting that the number could have been less, given that the President of the Philippines had been abusing his power, his signature's power on pork barrel, so to speak. These 104 pro-life, pro-Filipino, and pro-family congressmen might need our votes later. You don't have to remember the 104 names, you just have to remember 1 name: the name of your congressman from your district that appears on this list.

Commending Congw. Manay Gina de Venecia for her Pro-Life Stand

Two days from now, on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Philippines, the RH Bill will be voted upon in the House of Representatives. This is under the direction of the President who, for the record, is the leader of the executive branch, not the legislative branch, of the government.

Below is a letter I have just sent to our honorable congresswoman from Dagupan City commending her of her pro-life stand.

Masantos na caboasan, honorable congresswoman!

I have learned from some pro-life colleagues about your stand on the RH Bill and I write to commend you for being pro-life. 

We, in the city of Dagupan City, in fact, in the entire Philippines, do appreciate that you fight for the right of every human being to live. Alongside it, you also fight for the preservation of the Filipino culture especially regarding issues about the family, marriage, and the marital act. In the Upper House, discussions and deliberations about the proposed amendments on the Senate version of the bill have gone as far as disrespecting that most sacred act, which married couples do.

Pangasinenses do value the dignity of the human person, the sanctity of marriage, and the solidarity of the family. We hope you could be voice of the 4th district of Pangasinan on this matter.

Mabuhay ka, Manay Gina! Oadia cami labat ed beneg mo. Suportaan mica ed sayan laban tayo!

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings in the Name of the Lord whose birthday we celebrate this month!

With utmost respect to your good office, I humbly request for your "NO" vote on the RH Bill. This, I believe, after careful study on its history and consequences, as well as the work of the organizations who lobby behind it, will not be good for the Philippine economy and for the Filipinos at large. And in fact, it is not purely of Filipino origin. I hope that you shower us your mercy by respecting the dignity of the human person from its beginning up to its natural end, from conception to the last heartbeat.

With the issues being presented at hand, in print, radio and national TV, we can clearly point out that this un-Filipino bill will open doors to pre-marital sex and extra-marital affairs, which will destroy your and my family alike, or the families of your and my family members. It will teach children a new way of looking at so sacred an act, the marital act from which springs forth new human life.

Thank you and may God give you the courage to stand up for the life He offers to everyone and the power to vote "NO" for the RH Bill.
